Created by belly dancer Dana Beaufait, "Voi" is now a term commonly used for performing poi with veils attached to the poi weights. This new variation of traditional poi allows dancers to perform with the exciting visual drama, but without the dangers and restrictions of fire.

Our Voi sets include two lanyards and two 28" x 78" chiffon veils. The lanyards have a double-loop nylon handle attached via a metal O-ring to a thin, adjustable length nylon rope, which attaches via a swivel connector to the weighted ball. The ball also has a loop at the bottom to make attaching the Voi veils a breeze!

Excited to add this stunning prop to your performance, but not sure how to get started? Bellydance.com offers instructional videos that will teach you all you need to know to add Voi to your creative repertoire!

What is Poi?

"Poi" refers to both the art form and the equipment used for poi performances. The action of poi involves swinging tethered weights or balls through a variety of rhythmical and geometric patterns, usually to music. Often the weights or balls are set on fire for a dramatic "fire poi" routine.

Poi originated with the Maori people of New Zealand, where it is still practiced today. It has also gained a following in many other countries around the world, which has led to a significant evolution of the styles, tools used, and the definition of the word itself. Belly Dance is only one of many performance genres that have adopted and adapted this wonderful performance art.
